Hallmark's New Sympathy Cards; A Little History on Herman Cain; All Those Texas Jobs: Who Gets Them? Gov. Christie Smacks Down "Jersey Shore."

"Obama Stumping Jobs Bill," from The Onion. The Onion also reports on the provisions, some of which include:
  1. Every company that hires a veteran receives a complimentary signed photo of Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki.
  2. $21 haircut tax credit for anyone with an upcoming job interview.
  3. Extends unemployment benefits through 2016 in hopes that next administration can figure out how to make jobs.
  4. National television spots featuring a culturally diverse cross-section of old men yelling at viewers to get a job.
_________
  • OK, how bad is the economy? This bad. Hallmark is coming out with a new sympathy card. For whom? For people who become unemployed. Capitalism at its best.
  • More economic reality: Medium household income has fallen by 2.3% in the last 3 years. The number of people now living below the poverty line?---15.1% (In NYC, it's over 20% with 1 in 5 on food stamps). Number of households without a vehicle in 2010?---9.1%, up from 8.8% in 2009. In NY City, the unemployment rate for those 16-29 is almost 56%.
  • I have this feeling that Herman Cain is now picking up some Rick Perry folks. Just a feeling. Perry bombed in the last two debates according to most reports. Cain might benefit.
  • So I did some research on Cain. Unlike Pres. Obama, who is not all black, Cain is (that's for the benefit of those who continue to call conservative blacks like Cain Oreos).  Yes, he's the former CEO of Godfather's Pizza. He is also a past president of the National Restaurant Association. And yes, he was a director of the Kansas City Fed. But his father was a janitor and barber. His mother a house cleaner. In other words, he came from a humble background. Unlike Pres. Obama, he does have distant relatives who were slaves. Unlike Al Gore, Cain's father was not a segregationist. In fact, he lived through the segregationist era of the South (born in Memphis, TN). He's also a cancer survivor. So would many blacks support Cain? Probably not. Over 90% supported Gore even with his closet full of racism. And about 85% supported the fake, phony and back-stabbing fraud, John F. Kerry.
  • Someone asked me about the revisions of job statistics I often write about, jobs data that is inevitably changed the following week but rarely reported. It's called the Current Employment Statistics Preliminary Benchmark Revision (no, it's not something The Onion puts out). Each month the Labor Dept. reports on jobs it THINKS were created. But those monthly numbers change because the numbers are corrupted by estimates the government makes (wait, you mean the feds screw it up? Mon Dieu!). So where do the Feds get more accurate numbers? They check against unemployment insurance statistics compiled by each state. That data is based on real people getting real unemployment checks. In other words, the numbers are based on fact not fiction (John Crudele, HY Post Business).
  • Rick Perry's Texas jobs creation is good, but let's examine the specifics. The Center for Immigration Studies reported that 81% of the jobs created in Texas since 2007 have gone to immigrants. 93% of these immigrants are not American citizens. And approximately 50% are illegal. So how many native Texans hold jobs now?---67%, down from 71% in 2007.
  • How many states have a version of the Dream Act, permitting illegal immigrants to pay instate college tuition? ---12.
  • Kudos go to Gov. Christie. He vetoed a bill that would have given "Jersey Shore" a $420k tax credit. As one Jersey Assemblyman said, "I can't believe we are paying for fake tanning for Snooki and 'The Situation.'"
